Ecologic Legal brings the legal experts within Ecologic – Institute for International and European Environmental Policy - together.
Ecologic Legal carries out research in European and international environmental law, advises policy makers on related matters and contributes to academic and political debates on a broad range of environmental law issues.
The Ecologic Legal team is composed of lawyers with a high level of expertise in European and international environmental law. Strong academic backgrounds, extensive experience and the realisation of a large number of projects has made us specialists in the field. Ecologic Legal is committed to an interdisciplinary approach and works in close co-operation with the economists, political and environmental scientists among the Ecologic staff.
The research of Ecologic Legal covers a broad range of issues from overarching questions of European and environmental law – its development, enforcement and institutions - to more specific questions concerning sub-areas, such as the law of climate and biodiversity protection, emission control, water and waste law. In our work, we pay particular attention to interrelations of environmental law with other legal rules – in particular competition, trade and human rights law. The publication of books and scholarly articles and regular presentations at academic conferences are the result of our work.
Members of the Ecologic Legal team support governments during international and national negotiations and advise decisions-makers on implementing international and European legal requirements into German law and on the practical application of legal requirements by the competent authorities. In particular, our consulting services comprise the areas of climate and biodiversity protection, emission control, water, waste, subsidies and competition law.
Ecologic Legal is also involved in legal education as a host institution for young German lawyers during their compulsory post-graduate legal training (Referendariat).
Our legal research and consultancy are characterised by a high level of professionalism and expertise. It is our objective to strengthen the legal framework for the protection of the environment through scientific studies and contributing to public debates. We thus seek to add to the further development of European and international environmental law and to raise awareness of the importance of environmental policy among political decision-makers and the business community.
